To give university clubs an opportunity to continue socialising and to keep fitness and flexibility up during the 2021 lockdown, CHECC approached the BCA Youth and Development team requesting funds to provide a series of virtual yoga sessions. The sessions were provided by Caroline Nunn of Bersama Yoga, a caver with ULSA and qualified yoga instructor. Caroline kindly agreed to upload the sessions to YouTube afterwards so that those unable to attend, and the wider caving community, could benefit from the sessions. Find links to recordings of all sessions below.

Session 1: This first session in our Yoga for Cavers series is all about finding a neutral posture and holding it together while we move.

Session 2: The second session in the Yoga for Cavers series build on our first session focusing on posture. This class specifically looks to establish neutrality in the neck.

Session 3: This session is all about strengthening the musculature that supports the function of the knee.

Session 4: A lovely stretch out session to combat feelings of ‘tightness’ and restriction in your body!

Session 5: This session is all about the wrists, via the gateway of the shoulders.

Session 6: A recap of what has been covered so far on posture – back to basics!

Session 7: This session is a about pushing and pulling – two forces of opposition that are equally important.

Session 8: The last in this series, an amalgamation of everything covered so far travelling across all the big muscle groups!

Session 9: This class is all about getting reacquainted with your body after some time away from it. We explore finding neutrality in the pelvis and spine, to enable more supported movement.

Session 10: This session is about finding strength and mobility in the ankle joint for more adaptability.

Session 11: A slow and steady sequence to remedy the low back, perfect for if you’re feeling congested in that space!

Session 12: A session focussing on the hips, an area that can feel quite stagnant for many cavers.

Session 13: A session focussing on the hamtsrings – how ‘tight’ should they be?

Session 14: Another session focussing on the wrists, a part of the body that often have to bear a lot of weight during caving.

Session 15: Get ready to get hoppy, and super in-tune with your core strength. Have a block handy for this one as we’ll be using blocks to enhance our practice.

Session 16: The final session is one of two halves – a super active first part and a chilled out stretching session in the latter.
